Best Laptop on a Budget?

Hi im an art student from Ireland. As i start my new year in college im more than likely going to have to have a laptop to get my work done. What laptop would people recommend would be good for an artist in a budget of around £500.I just want it to be fast enough to run most programs, can store a fair amount of work and with a decent battery life.
