/r/Games Is Looking For US/NA Timezone Moderators!

Due to a steady growth coupled with natural turnover on the team, we find ourselves in need of more eyes to place on /r/Games than we currently have to spare, specifically in the North American timezones. As time goes on, moderators come and go, and every subreddit eventually finds itself in a position where it has to refill the ranks. To that end we've decided it's time to recruit some moderators who can be active primarily in the US/North American timezones to help fill our ranks. If you feel like you can be active during these hours, we would love to hear from you! Below, we've included a list of Requirements and Preferred Qualities we're looking for in our applicants.RequirementsYou must be able to coordinate with the rest of the moderation team while you are moderating. We currently use Discord for team discussions and communicating when you will be away for extended periods of time.Your current reddit account must be at least one year old.You must be willing and able to put a decent amount of time into moderating on /r/Games. If you can only spare an hour or two a week then please do not apply. We expect applicants to be familiar with the /r/Games community, but we do not require moderators to be actively posting.Preferred QualitiesWe are primarily aiming to pick up some extra moderators who can help cover the American timezoneModerating is greatly helped by third-party browser extensions such as Reddit Enhancement Suite. Being able to install such extensions on the computer(s) you use to browse reddit would be a very good thing. Mobile apps usually lack tools required for quality moderating, although some are better than others.Moderators of /r/Games are expected to be able to perform most reddit moderating tasks - we do not have dedicated specialist roles on this subreddit. The main thing that takes up our time is reviewing user reports on posts. This community is active and passionate but unfortunately some users go too far with shitposting or making attacks on other users. Moderators are also expected to be able to answer messages that we receive from users via the subreddit's moderator mail, such as queries about post removals or people checking if a proposed post would fit the rules of the subreddit.Other issues you will encounter as a moderator include dealing with spam and deliberate self-promotion, banning users who have seriously broken the subreddit rules, and discussions with other moderators for reviewing moderation actions or planning the future of this subreddit.QuestionnaireWhat timezone are you in and what times would you be available to moderate /r/Games?If you can, please give times in UTC to make it a little bit easier on us when we compile all the applications. What, if any, have been your experiences with moderation? Have you moderated any other subreddits or communities? Have you had any good or bad experiences with other moderators?Experience is NOT required (otherwise it would be in the requirements). We can train you with the use of moderation tools.Do you have any skills that you think would be useful for moderating /r/Games?How would you improve /r/Games?Please send your applications through via this form and please be sure to modmail us on the Reddit account you applied with informing us that you applied simply so we can be sure it isn't an imposter trying to slander your good name.We will gather applications until Thursday, March 7th, and then review them. From there we will invite people to talk to us further, and hopefully add some new mods! The process may take several weeks; we'll be as quick as we can but we imagine there will be lots of internal discussion and we cannot guarantee that there will not be delays. We are looking for moderators that can provide long term commitment to /r/Games (at least 6 months), members of our community who want to help us keep our goals and provide the content our users love.We have very modest activity requirements from our Moderators to make sure there isn't anybody just sitting on the list. We don't want to waste our time or yours, so If you don't feel you can commit to helping our community, please hold back your application until a time when you feel you can.The Comment Only Mod (COM) ProgramIf you don't have the time to commit to modding full time, but still want to help the subreddit out, the Comment Only Mod program may be just right for you.The Comment Only Mod (COM) ProgramFor some time we have been trialing a new program to try and bring some semblance of order to the comment sections of posts on r/Games. As some of you may have noticed, things can get heated and quite toxic at times in the comment sections of some of the posts here.Today we're excited to bring this program public and also make a general call for new Comment Only Moderators (COMs). The COM Program is a new initiative by the /r/Games moderators to increase the quality of comment sections on the subreddit. It is similar in concept to the “Army of Science”, the large group of reduced permission moderators on /r/science who are tasked solely with removing comments that break that subreddit’s rules and keeping that subreddit to actual science. The Comment Only Mods will operate under a similar principle. You will only have the moderation permissions necessary to remove or approve comments. Your main task will be to check on comment sections on /r/Games as you browse and remove any comments that break the rules of the subreddit. You will also keep an eye out for repeat offenders and pass any serious issues up to full subreddit mods. You will not ban users, speak for or as the subreddit, remove submissions or decide on updates to subreddit policy (although your input may help shape it). This role comes with less responsibility than being a regular mod and is for users who want to try and improve the environment in the sub we all love.Although it does have less responsibility than being a regular mod, it does have some requirements:You need to be a user in good standing on the sub. A solid understanding of our rules shown by following them on our subreddit will help your application. You need to be active on the subreddit. We don't want people who aren't going to be present enough to try and help clean up the comments.Be able to commit to at least 100 comments removed per month. This is a small fraction of the requirements we have for fully fledged moderators, and really equates to 3-4 comments removed a day.Be able to liaise with us in real time on discord. You will be working with a small subset of r/Games moderators who have volunteered to help coordinate this program and reporting any issues that warrant escalation directly to them. via /r/Games https://ift.tt/2NzxQdB
