Ping spikes when downloading / updating anything

Recently, about 2 weeks ago. My ping has been very unstable. Fluctuating like crazy. Recently learned it happens when something on my computer is download / updating something. Anyone know why and how I could fix this? Ping is normally 52 ish, and with downloads / updates it can go from 800-2500. via /r/tech https://ift.tt/336hJeD
