A word of warning to those looking to buy Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020

I live in Asia so I was able to get my hands on the game yesterday. The only local multiplayer you can play is quick play or multiple systems play. I have only played quick play on a single machine, so I will comment on that experience only. You cannot organise tournaments, or multiple events in a row, or heats, or even count the gold medals earned between each game and see who gets the most in total. If you are playing with friends you will find it hard to keep track of who won what. Most events in quick play will end in less than a minute. That means every minute you have to go to the event menu and re-select characters (changing event feature also includes changing characters, you can't simply just change event). You really feel taken out of the game, it doesn't feel like you are competing in the olympics but feels like you are just playing olympics-themed minigames.Playing multiplayer also forces splitscreen on you. In Javelin or Triple Jump, it would be helpful to see how close you are to the line before throwing or jumping. Ideally you would want each player to take a turn, however you will be forced to do your turns all at the same time, which is extremely annoying if you have a smaller TV like us, as we can barely see where the foul line is.I have yet to try the story mode but I doubt I will. I play these types of games to have fun with friends but I can't even enjoy my drink as I have to navigate the menu every damn minute! Also, you have to re-sync controllers every time you decide to play a game mode that doesn't support the previous game mode controllers (for example Running can use dual controllers, moving to Discus which does not support dual controllers means you need to stop everyone and get their controllers re-synced. If you move back to something like Triple Jump, get them synced again!)The minigames themselves are quite fun though, it's just everything else that ruins the experience in my opinion. via /r/Games https://ift.tt/34pGW40
